County Launches Investigation Into Mental Health Center Complaints

(Portland, OR)  --  Multnomah County is launching an investigation into how complaints are reviewed from the Unity Center for Behavioral Health.  County Chair Deborah Kafoury and County COO Marissa Madrigal approved the investigation yesterday.  The move follows reports from a whistleblower who retired from his county position last month.  Greg Monaco says his reports about misconduct at the center fell on deaf ears.  Those reports included an incident in which a security guard allegedly placed a female patient in a chokehold as well as incidents in which staff members were injured.  The Oregon Health Authority issued a report last month saying they uncovered several issues that jeopardized patient safety at the center.
