Family Of Man Killed By PSU Police To Speak Today

(Portland, OR)  --  A public statement is expected this morning from the family of a black man who was shot and killed by campus police at Portland State University.  The Portland NAACP issued a news release last night saying PSU has asked the family of Jason Washington to remove the memorial they put up in his honor.  Police shot and killed Washington in June while he was trying to break up a fight near the Cheerful Tortoise bar.  Witnesses say Washington was bending down to pick up a gun that fell out of his waist holster when police opened fire on him.  The Navy veteran had a license to carry a concealed handgun.
