(Portland, OR)  --  Oregon leaders and lawmakers are commenting on the passing of Senator John McCain of Arizona.  Governor Kate Brown called McCain an American hero with an unflinching commitment to our country.  Senator Ron Wyden took to Twitter, calling McCain "a lion of the U.S. Senate, a patriot and a true American hero."  Senator Jeff Merkley says he was deeply saddened by McCain's death, adding that he led a courageous and remarkable life.  Brown has ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset tonight.  McCain passed away Saturday, just one day after his family announced he'd decided to discontinue treatment for brain cancer.
