(Portland, OR) -- Family and friends are paying tribute to a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor who lived through five forced labor and concentration camps in Nazi-era Germany. The family of Alter Wiener gathered yesterday to commemorate the 30-day period following burial, called shloshim in the Jewish faith. Wiener died last month after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Hillsboro. KATU reports Wiener was one of only a few remaining Holocaust survivors living in the Portland area. He documented his life and trials in a memoir titled "From a Name to a Number: A Holocaust Survivor's Autobiography."
