OR Man Gets 5 Years For Threatening Welfare Workers

(Portland, OR)  --  A Portland man is headed to prison for threatening state welfare workers with a knife.  The Oregonian reports that 51-year-old Freddy Velasquez-Soto was sentenced yesterday to five years behind bars.  He pulled a knife in 2017 on two social workers who had gone to his apartment to check on a safety plan for his daughter.  He threatened to kill one of them and hurt the other.  In court, he said he was set up and was dismissive as he said he planned to appeal his conviction.
