Lawsuit: Girl Mauled By "Emotional Support" Pit Bull

(Portland, OR)  --  A lawsuit filed in Oregon Monday seeks more than a million dollars after a five-year-old girl was mauled by a supposed emotional support pit bull inside Portland International Airport.  The attack happened in December 2017 when the girl asked to pet the dog in the gate waiting area.  The dog attacked the girl's face, puncturing her eyelid, severing her tear duct and tearing her lip and face.  She required surgery and still has scars.  The suit blames the airport for allowing the dog inside without being properly confined.  It argues the dog wasn't a properly trained service animal and blames lax airport rules about what constitutes a service animal.  A spokeswoman for the Port of Portland said that officials are only allowed to ask if the animal is a trained service animal and are required to accept the answer.
