(New York, NY) -- Attorney Michael Avenatti is facing federal charges of trying to extort Beaverton-based Nike. U.S. Attorney Geoff Berman said yesterday that Avenatti threatened to expose alleged information that would damage the company's reputation, unless he was paid upwards of 20-million-dollars. Prosecutors say he suggested Nike pay him to conduct an internal investigation, and that he'd remain quiet as to the truth of the matter. It's not immediately clear what damaging information Avenatti planned to release. Avenatti is also facing federal charges out of California for bank and wire fraud.
