Rainier Police Chief's Accused Killer Sentenced Following Plea Deal

(Rainier, OR)  --  The man who killed Rainier Police Chief Ralph Painter eight years ago will spend the rest of his life in prison after changing his plea to guilty.  Daniel Butts pleaded guilty by reason of insanity yesterday after psychiatrists diagnosed him with schizophrenia.  Butts shot and killed Chief Painter with his own gun, after the chief confronted him at a car stereo store.  The 29-year-old man can apply for parole after spending nearly 49 years in prison.
