Salem Plastic Bag Ban Takes Effect

(Salem, OR)  --  Salem's plastic bag ban is now in effect.  The city's ban went into effect Monday.  Grocers and retailers are no longer offering plastic bags.  Consumers can request paper bags at five cents a bag.  Smaller stores are getting a grace period and will be allowed to continue distributing plastic bags with prepared food until September.
