Man Gets Probation For Hate Crime Threat Against Gay Man

(Portland, OR)  --  A Portland man is sentenced to probation after threatening to kill a gay man for being gay.  The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office says 47-year-old Scott Wayne Smith was sentenced yesterday to 24 months of formal probation.  Smith pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree intimidation for the incident in which he used homophobic slurs and threatened the life of a gay man last August outside an apartment complex in Southwest Portland.
