(Coos Bay, OR) -- More than 100 jobs are being eliminated with Georgia-Pacific's decision to close its plant in Coos Bay. The lumber manufacturer announced the closure yesterday, saying it was prompted by evaluations that concluded that operating the facility was no longer competitive due to overall market conditions and unreliable rail service. The company expects to plan to begin cutting jobs in June. That includes 13 salaried positions and 98 hourly jobs.
