PPB Says It Won't Cooperate With ICE To Detain Immigrants

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland Police Bureau says it won't be cooperating with ICE and other federal agencies in their efforts to round up undocumented immigrants.  Police Chief Danielle Outlaw released a statement yesterday reminding residents that Oregon state law prohibits local law enforcement from using their staff or resources to detain undocumented immigrants.  Outlaw says the bureau wants everyone in the community to feel safe and protected.  She adds that it's more important now than ever to understand the uncertainty and fear faced by many in our immigrant communities.  The statement came ahead of expected ICE raids scheduled for yesterday by the Trump administration in several major U.S. cities.  The raids reportedly didn't end up happening.
