(Portland, OR)  --  Construction is underway on a new safety project for Northeast 102nd Avenue.  KATU reports crews broke ground on phase one of the project earlier this week.  Crews will be adding in bike lanes as well as a median turn lane and a pedestrian island.  Crews will be working on the road over the next two weeks from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m.  City officials say they're optimistic that the project won't snarl traffic too badly.
