(Portland, OR) -- Oregon schools are now required to teach students about the Holocaust. Governor Kate Brown signed a bill into law requiring public schools to teach about genocide starting next year. She said "we must empower our children with knowledge so together we can stomp out the growing hate in our country." The bill was spurred by a 14-year-old girl after she became friends with a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor. Oregon is the 12th state to require Holocaust education.
