(Salem, OR) -- The Salem City Council is rejecting a sit-lie ordinance. Council members voted last night against the ordinance that would have banned people from sitting or lying on city sidewalks between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. The ordinance would have effectively ended day camping for the homeless. City council did approve an ordinance restricting people from maintaining a campsite on public sidewalks or public property for more than 24 hours.
