Man Rescued After Jumping Into Willamette River

(Portland, OR)  --  One man is lucky to be alive after being pulled from the Willamette River.  The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office says the man was suffering from a mental health crisis when he jumped off the Steel Bridge on Tuesday night.  Police say the captain of the lead boat in the Christmas Ships parade spotted the man floating in the water and jumped into action, pulling the man into his boat and helping him warm up.  Police say the man was in the water for less than an hour but that it doesn't take long for hypothermia to set in, with water temperatures hovering around 42 degrees.
