(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Public Schools is suspending non-essential gatherings and activities in response to the novel coronavirus.  The district announced yesterday it's canceling all school-based assemblies and events, field trips and other meetings and events for the next 30 days.  So far, there's no plan to cancel classes.  District officials say they're consulting with state and county health officials on whether classes should be cancelled.
