Portland Archdiocese Won't Cancel Masses Over Coronavirus

(Portland, OR)  --  The Archdiocese of Portland says he has no plans to cancel public Masses over the novel coronavirus outbreak.  Archbishop Alexander Sample said yesterday that parishes with high Sunday Mass attendance should consider adding more Masses.  However, he said he won't cancel public Masses.  The archbishop said the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist is the "summit" of Christian life and where Christians are "nourished by God's Word, and receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ."  The announcement comes in response to Governor Kate Brown's ban on gatherings of more than 250 people due to the new coronavirus.
