(Portland, OR) -- The U.S. Geological Survey is confirming a seven-point-five-magnitude earthquake struck in the north Pacific last night. The USGS says the quake struck around 8 p.m. near the Kuril Islands, putting Hawaii on a tsunami watch that has since been cancelled. The National Weather Service in Portland says the earthquake did generate a very small tsunami, but no damaging waves were expected to hit the U.S. coastline.
