PPS Removing School Resource Officers From Schools

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Public Schools is removing school resource officers from its schools.  District Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero announced plans yesterday to discontinue the regular presence of resource officers on its campuses.  Guerrero says it's time for the district to re-examine its relationship with the Portland Police Bureau.  Police Chief Jami Resch says there has been an ongoing conversation about the role of police in public schools and whether or not they should be assigned to campuses.  Resch says officers who were assigned to the Youth Services Division will be reassigned to the Operations Branch.
