Mayor Wheeler Orders Police To Stop Using Sonic Weapon Against Protesters

(Portland, OR)  --  Mayor Ted Wheeler is ordering the Portland Police Bureau to stop using sonic weaponry against protesters.  Wheeler issued a tweet Friday night ordering police to stop using the long-range acoustic device called L-RAD to disperse demonstrators, effective immediately.  The device may now only be used to share information.  The order comes in response to officers using the blaring warning tones at the end of an all-night protest.  Portland police have released video that shows how the device works.
