(Portland, OR) -- A statue of Thomas Jefferson is no longer standing at Jefferson High School. KATU reports the statue was torn down sometime last night with the message "slave trader" spray painted across its base. The statue appears to be mostly still intact. KATU reports the statue appears to have come down sometime after protesters who had gathered at the school yesterday left on their march to Alberta Park. The protesters are calling for an end to police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis late last month.
