Police Tear Down Protesters' Autonomous Zone In NW Portland

(Portland, OR)  --  A short-lived autonomous zone created by protesters outside Mayor Ted Wheeler's home in northwest Portland is no more.  The Portland Police Bureau declared a civil disturbance and unlawful assembly around 5:30 this morning in the streets outside Wheeler's apartment.  Protesters had set up an occupation in the area overnight, using pallets, boards and dumpsters to block the zone off to traffic.  Police moved in after declaring an unlawful assembly and removed the barriers.  Protesters were calling the area the Patrick Kimmons Autonomous Zone.  Kimmons was shot to death by police in downtown Portland in 2018.
