Man Arrested For Bias Crime After Allegedly Punching Pregnant Black Woman In Belly

(Portland, OR)  --  A man is facing hate crime charges after allegedly punching a pregnant black woman in the stomach.  Police arrested 26-year-old Nathaniel Mirelez on several charges including bias crime for the assault Tuesday night at a residential treatment facility in North Portland.  Police say Mirelez had recently been kicked out of the facility and became violent, breaking a window and threatening staff members while throwing things.  He allegedly punched one staff member in the face before turning on a pregnant resident who was trying to leave and punching her in the belly.  Police say he used a racial slur just before the assault.  The woman was hospitalized for treatment.  No word yet on her baby's condition.
