(Portland, OR) -- The Wapato Corrections Facility in North Portland is now the Bybee Lakes Hope Center for the Homeless. A rededication ceremony was held yesterday. About 70 beds will open in September, operated by the non-profit Helping Hands, which operates eleven emergency shelters and re-entry programs in four Oregon coastal counties. Founder Alan Evans expects the center to be full at opening with the worst still to come from the pandemic. They hope to expand to 200 beds by December and 500 beds by next year.
