(Portland, OR) -- Governor Kate Brown is responding to President Trump's tweets criticizing Portland's response to ongoing demonstrations against systemic racism. Trump took to Twitter yesterday saying Governor Kate Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler should call the National Guard to help police control the crowds. Brown responded that Oregon isn't interested in playing political theater. She says the National Guard is focused on fighting wildfires, distributing PPE and helping with unemployment calls. Brown adds it's better to de-escalate confrontation through community conversations and trained law enforcement officers to protect free speech and keep the peace.
