(Portland, OR)  --  Portland will soon have the nation's strictest ban on facial recognition technology.  Portland City Councilmembers voted unanimously yesterday to approve the bans on both city use and private use of the controversial technology.  The ban on use by city departments takes effect immediately, while the ban on private use goes into effect on January 1st.
