(Portland, OR)  --  A former Portland Postal worker is headed to prison for stealing mobile phones out of packages in the mail.  According to court documents, 24-year-old Rico Alvarez began stealing smart phones from packages at his sorting station in August of 2019.  Over the next three months, Alvarez stole more than 400 phones.  He pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of mail in July of this year.  Alvarez was sentenced Wednesday to one year and a day in federal prison and ordered to pay more than 253-thousand dollars in restitution.
