(Portland, OR) -- The first Portland Street Response team is operational in a pilot program. They respond to calls for people who are homeless or have mental health issues that would have normally been handled by police. The program is modeled off of Eugene's CAHOOTS [[ kuh-HOOTS ]] team. The first PSR team will be stationed in the Lents area of southeast Portland. They'll be dispatched by 911 when certain criteria are met from the caller.
