Man Pepper Sprayed By Mayor Wheeler Apologizes

(Portland, OR) -- The man who was pepper-sprayed by Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler is issuing an apology. Wheeler was dining outside at the Hillsdale McMenamins Sunday night with former Mayor Sam Adams when Cary Cadonau confronted him and started recording him. Wheeler says the man then followed him to his car and refused his requests to "back off," prompting Wheeler to pepper spray him. Wheeler says he was concerned for his safety and that the man was not wearing a mask. Cadonau released a statement saying he's sorry Wheeler felt he needed to use pepper spray, and that Wheeler has a very difficult job. Cadonau is an attorney and says he has also apologized to his law partners for his conduct.
