Charges Dropped Against Murder Suspect Held At Oregon State Hospital

(Portland, OR)  --  Charges are being dropped against a Portland murder suspect who suffers from mental illness.  Authorities say 26-year-old Demetrius Brown is being held as an "extremely dangerous person with mental illness" at the Oregon State Hospital.  Oregon law states that if someone is held in the state hospital for three years, the charges must be dropped.  Police say Brown is a suspect in two separate murders as well as an attempted murder and an assault.  A grand jury can indict Brown on the murder charges if he is released and deemed fit to stand trial.
