(Florence, OR) -- Forecasters are warning residents about an increased risk of sneaker waves today along the Oregon coast. The National Weather Service says a Beach Hazards Statement warning is in effect for the north and central Oregon coast through the end of the night. Sneaker waves are waves that run farther up onto the beach than other waves. The powerful waves have been known to pick up large logs and are strong enough to knock a person over and drag them into the ocean.
