(Portland, OR) -- The U.S. Geological Survey's new earthquake early warning system ShakeAlert will roll out to Oregon residents this March. The USGS announced a March 11th rollout date yesterday. The service is designed to send alerts in real time to cellphones and other wireless devices as soon as USGS sensors detect the start of an earthquake. ShakeAlert has been enabled in California since October of 2019 and will roll out to Washington state residents in May.
