Crowd Protests Food Dumping At Fred Meyer

(Portland, OR) -- Police say a crowd of people gathered to protest outside the Fred Meyer store at Northeast 30th and Weidler, where spoiled food was being thrown into a large dumpster Tuesday night. Employees at the store called police to say they felt threatened by the crowd. Power was out at the store, and Fred Meyer says the food being thrown away was at risk because it wasn't refrigerated. Fred Meyer makes donations to food banks but says this food wasn't safe to donate.
