(Vancouver, WA) -- A judge in Vancouver, Washington is facing calls to resign for his comments denigrating a Black man who was shot to death by police during a drug bust last year. The Columbian reports District Court Judge Darvin Zimmerman was caught on a live mic calling 21-year-old Kevin Peterson Jr., quote, "the Black guy they're trying to make an angel out of." Zimmerman also called Peterson, quote, "so dumb." Police shot and killed Peterson last October after he ran from officers trying to arrest him for allegedly arranging to sell 50 Xanax pills to a confidential informant. The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney says his office is moving immediately to disqualify Zimmerman from presiding over all criminal cases going forward. The defense firm Vancouver Defenders is calling on Zimmerman to resign.
