Man Allegedly Jumps In River To Avoid Police

(West Linn, OR) -- A man is facing charges after allegedly trying to escape a traffic stop by jumping into the Willamette River. Police say 42-year-old David Rios refused to stop Sunday night when an officer tried to pull him over on Willamette Falls Drive. Rios allegedly eluded the officer and then ditched his car and ran about a mile to Willamette Park and jumped into the river. Police say Rios got too tired to swim back to shore and ended up holding onto a tree until fire crews responded to rescue him. Police arrested him for resisting arrest and for a previous federal warrant.
