Wyden Co-Sponsors Bill To End Draft

(Washington, DC) -- Democratic U.S. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon is voicing his support for a proposal to end the draft. Wyden, who is co-sponsoring the bill, says the Selective Service program disproportionately harms disadvantaged young men and should be eliminated. He adds that it costs 25-million dollars a year to operate. Republican co-sponsor Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky says it's been 50 years since the draft was used, and he believes that if Congress votes to declare a war, people will volunteer to serve.
