Former Congresswoman Elizabeth Furse Dies

(Portland, OR)  --  Former Oregon Congresswoman Elizabeth Furse has died.  Officials say Furse died at her home Sunday night at the age of 84.  Furse served Oregon's first Congressional district for three terms in the 1990s.  She was an advocate for Native American rights and helped five Oregon tribes regain federal recognition.  She also established the Institute for Tribal Government within the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University.
