Drug Bill Moves To House

(Salem, OR) -- The Oregon House will consider a bill that will recriminalize illegal drug use. The bill was passed out of a joint committee Tuesday evening. The bill will give counties the option of sending people caught with illegal drugs to treatment or jail. Twenty-three counties have committed to using treatment first, in most cases. There are concerns the bill the disproportionately impact Black and Hispanic communities. The bill also has an automatic process to erase the charge if the person is successful with drug treatment.
