She issued a statement calling it a "shocking assassination" that should "horrify every American who believes in free speech." Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham called Kirk a "powerful voice for common sense," whose life was "tragically cut short." Democrats Governor Tina Kotek and U.S. Senator Ron Wyden both said political violence has no place in our country.
