Talks Between Portland Schools, Teachers Stall

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland Public Schools Superintendent Carole Smith says the gap has widened in contract talks between the school district and the union representing Portland teachers.  Smith made the remarks to "The Oregonian" after a mediation session ended last night, saying the main points of contention remain salary increases, a longer school year, and early retirement incentives.  Further talks haven't yet been scheduled.
