Oregon Deals With Rash Of Wildfires

(Salem, OR) -- Firefighters are battling over 100 new wildfires sparked by lightning strikes across Oregon. Fire officials told "The New York Times" that 140 new wildfires have been reported in Oregon since Wednesday, after thunder clouds produced thousands of lightning strikes, but not much rain. About 11-thousand people in western Oregon have been given evacuation warnings, with about 12-hundred being told to leave immediately. The wildfires are also producing a haze of unhealthy smoke that is blanketing much of the state.
