Wyden Calls Canada Tariffs "Shakedown"
(Washington, DC) -- Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, says President Trump's 50 percent tariffs on 20-billion-dollars' worth of imports from Canada is a "shakedown." Trump issued the tariffs under Section 338 of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. It's a provision that has never been used by a President. Wyden says it'll cause price increases for Americans, who pay the tariffs. Wyden says he'll introduce a bill soon to restrict the President's tariff authority and return it to Congress.
