Climber Killed In Mt. Jefferson Fall
(Detroit, OR) -- A climber from Idaho was killed in a fall from the summit of Mt. Jefferson on Friday. Two climbers reported they saw an unknown climber fall down the west side of the summit near Red Saddle. An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter crew spotted the climber's backpack and other gear, but couldn't find the climber. On Saturday, it was reported that 37-year-old Jared Empey, from Kuna, Idaho, was missing. He was an experienced climber on a solo climb. Recovery efforts continue, but his body may have fallen into an area where it can't be recovered.
