(Portland, OR) -- The City of Newport is getting 20-thousand-dollars from Portland to help with legal costs to stop possible construction of an ICE detention facility. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security withdrew plans for the facility, but never said it wouldn't be built some time in the future. About two months ago, Newport's mayor asked other cities to help with costs to fight the plans. Legal expenses top 300-thousand-dollars. Portland Mayor Keith Wilson says Newport's fight is Oregon's fight, because it would affect people in communities across the state.
