Wyden Questions Trump Diamond Ring Gift
(Washington, D.C.) -- Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, ranking member on the Finance Committee, wants to know if a diamond-encrusted gold ring gift influenced President Trump's decision to release the Belgium Diamond industry from tariffs. After the Supreme Court ruled Trump's previous global tariffs were illegal, the administration implemented a 10 percent blanket tariff under a different law. The first tariffs spared the Belgium diamond industry. The second tariffs did not. In July, diamond industry leaders gave Trump a 35-thousand-dollar 18 karat gold ring with 400 gemstones and a personal engraving to the President. Wyden wants answers from the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium by September 1st.
