(Salem, OR) -- For six decades, corporations in the U.S. have been required to report demographic information. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is moving to abolish the rule. Oregon Secretary of State Elizabeth Steiner is calling on the EEOC to leave the rule in place. Without it, companies would stop turning over annual workforce demographic reports, which some say would make it harder to track discriminatory hiring practices. Steiner says it also would leave investors, like Oregon's Public Employee Retirement Fund, managed by the state Treasurer, blind to material risks from discriminatory practices.
