(Salem, OR) -- Governor Tina Kotek says Oregon can expect several more weeks of wildfires before the end of the season, as fires continue burning across the country and strain regional resources. The governor toured active fires and burn scars by air yesterday, including the Grasshopper and Cottonwood fires. The Grasshopper Fire is 76 percent contained and the Cottonwood Fire is 95 percent contained. Other fires across the country have limited resources Oregon could normally turn to for help. So far this season, crews have dumped almost one-and-a-half million gallons of water on Oregon wildfires. The governor says wildland fire crews have collaborated closely with federal agencies and that federal assistance continues flowing to Oregon.
