Update: Suspect's Name Released In Deadly Canby Officer-Involved Shooting
(Canby, OR) -- Police have released the name of the suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting in Canby last week. The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Mario Francisco Mendoza. Police say, last Thursday night, Mendoza was allegedly trying to force his way into an apartment along South Sequioa Parkway. When officers arrived, they approached Mendoza and tried to detain him. That's when Mendoza took off, according to police, resulting in a foot chase. Police say, during the chase, Mendoza allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at officers. Two Canby officers then fired shots, killing Mendoza. The Clackamas County District Attorney's Office said body cam footage of the incident won't be released until a grand jury evaluation is completed.
