(Portland, OR) -- A plan to rename a street in Portland is moving forward. Yesterday, the Portland City Council voted in favor of renaming Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to Campesinos Boulevard. This is in response to abuse allegations made against Chavez. Supporters say the new name is meant to honor generations of farm workers, families and organizers whose labor and advocacy have shaped Oregon. The vote followed months of community discussions from a New York Times report that Chavez groomed and sexually abused young girls.
